Take Heart Ministries, A Offering Of True Encouragement!

Jezebel Goes to Church

(1999) Jezebel Goes to Church, Syndrome of the Saints is Thom’s first book. It lays naked that which is the core problem with modern-day Christianity.  This is not the heady and dry work of a theologian, but one that it rich in practical applications. This was God’s course of action that literally saved Thom from his own self-deception documented in book form, but not written as a testimony. We need to coin a new word: testsamany!  Yes, there were many tests along the way. In fact, he could write book about the experiences endured while writing this one; but most people couldn’t fathom how often the powers of darkness attempted to thwart the project.

Birthed by the need to rescue Thom himself and painstakingly written through a decade of “severe dealings” by the Holy Spirit, Jezebel Goes to Church says in layman language what we already know to be true in our hearts. It’s a “refreshing read” and one that will lay your heart bear before the throne of grace.  Thom’s approach to the subject of Jezebel is both hard-hitting and truth-filled; but also tender-hearted and non-judgmental. Thom’s unique approach is somewhat critical, yet not written in a critical spirit.

Granted, most Christians have a basic knowledge of how Elijah defeated Jezebel’s stable of false prophets, but lack the horse sense to understand the importance of confronting what is false and spurious today!  The Old Testament ends with this sobering promise and warning: “Behold, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the LORD. And he will restore the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the land with a curse” (Malachi 4:5,6).  The demonic host of Queen Jezebel did not die when Jehu commanded her servants to “throw her down” … and neither did the spirit of Elijah.

- Dire Warning! -

In the closing book of the New Testament, still another warning comes to a body of truly spiritual believers who hadn’t a clue of how deceiving spirits were infiltrating the ranks of their trusted leaders. “I have this against you, that you tolerate the woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, and she teaches and leads My bondservants astray, so that they commit acts of immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols” (Revelation 2:20).  Nary a believer today is unaffected by spirits of witchcraft and rebellion against the LORD of lords and King of kings.  Spirits under the control of Jezebel do, in fact, attend church services and hold high positions of authority within the religious ranks. Jezebelic spirits are first and foremost propagators of religious folly and vainglory.

About Jezebel is meant to be both a haven and a harbinger for truth seekers/warriors who acutely know that our battle is never against mere mortals yet are honest enough to admit that they are woefully lacking. About Jezebel is not intended to be merely the ministry of Thom Minnick, but invites contributions from other writers who desire a forum for discussion and spiritual growth. “Now I exhort you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all agree, and there be no divisions among you, but you be made complete in the same mind and in the same judgment” (I Corinthians 1:10). Truth converges after many perspectives are offered and the lies of religionists are discredited. May we all find agreement even as we learn to disagree agreeably.

THOM’S NEW BOOK: Jezebel Goes to Church, Deposing The Despot

In Deposing The Despot, Thom candidly shares how he was lured by the wiles of romantic love. Yet, God provided a way of escape while exposing more intricate insights into the blight of Jezebel.  No one is exempt from deception, not matter how long one is “in the faith.” Book Two, Jezebel Goes to Church: Deposing the Despot, takes a fearless look at how Thom’s own life was a “proving ground” for all that God revealed before and during the writing of his first book.

In this no-holds-barred confession of the perils of romantic love, Thom’s life is the deposition of how God permitted temptation and allowed demonic activity to temper one of His prophets.

Our Most Critical Need

We are tempted to fix on one or another weakness and say, “This is what is wrong with the Church.” If this were corrected we could recapture the glory of the Early Church and have Pentecostal times back with us again. This tendency to oversimplification is itself a weakness and should be guarded against always. I can only say that I have observed one significant lack among evangelical Christians, which might turn out to be the real cause of most of our spiritual troubles; and, of course, if that were true, then the supplying of that lack would be our most critical need. The great deficiency to which I refer is the lack of spiritual discernment, especially among our leaders.                                                                        Dr. A. W. Tozer
